NYFW Katya Leonovich Fashion Presentation Fall/Winter 2016
Some people on their vacations become inspired to plan their next vacation, or ways to input the serenity from their time away into their everyday lives. Others, like Katya Leonovich, become inspired to create a collection.
Similar to when Katya witnessed the storm upon her recent vacation to Bermuda and took it to represent the phenomenon and treasures of life, so were the many fervent lines of colors in the clothing she created. In addition, Katya’s use of textures seemed to echo the feelings of uncertainty and hope that comes with hysteria; leggings were slashed, sleeves had cut-out details and fur and lace were used skillfully with leather to add to the drama.
The oil on canvas paintings behind the mannequins, all abstract and done by Katya, were brilliant and perhaps my favorite part of the show. With faces and eyes hidden in the painting of the hungry waves, and animals in others, I only wish more of those prints were channeled deeper into the collection instead of just on canvas.
