Allure Magazine x ESQ Movado Girl's Night Out
By the time Thursday comes around, exhaustion has neared its peak and ravage attempts at keeping the eye twitches at bay are put in motion. An old colleague of mine used to swear my fatigue was imaginary, his faulty observation generally taken at the onset of coffee cup number two. Perhaps my hydrated-by-caffeine-self gives the impression that I am a wide-eyed, 8-hours-of-sleep kind of girl, but do not be fooled.
Although trite this ongoing tiff about my sleeping habits and the sincerity of my exhaustion, it became our morning routine, my response never wavering. Long days, short nights. That is why I am honest to G-d so tired, so please stop questioning it.
Tempting as it may be, I cannot even place the bulk of the blame on my job. The sleep deprivation stems from the after-hour projects I commit to, the weekly once-in-a-lifetime New York City experiences it is vital I have, and the events I simply could not live with myself for not attending.
I believe a Girl's Night Out hosted by Allure Magazine x ESQ Movado falls into at least two of the categories listed above. So, I downed one last cup of coffee to establish a sufficient caffeine buzz and made my way to Lord & Taylor where the event was taking place.
My cubicle-wall-sharing boss/friend accompanied me to the event. We walked into Lord & Taylor 25 minutes early, ready to settle back and wait for the shindig to get started. Shockingly, we were greeted by a mass of a hundred other earlybirds already waiting in line to enter the 2x4 penned off area designated for the event. Having arrived in the first wave of 150 guests, we were the lucky recipients of a voucher redeemable for a gift bag. Waiters walked up and down the line serving glasses of champagne on silver trays and one woman handed out beauty samples.
I love Allure Magazine and ESQ Movado, you're pretty cool too, but let's call a spade a spade. After Leatha and I explored Lord & Taylor's endless amount of floors to pass the hour long wait before gift bags could be collected, we were pumped to check out all the goodies in store for us. A magazine, a pen, and a mini black zipper pouch. I am just not sure if those items qualify as gift bag material; although, I am very excited to crack open my new subway read.
Mini manicures were promised to anyone who tried on an ESQ Movado one watch, so obviously Leatha and I tried ours on, only to be given the last remaining appointment for 2 hours later. It was also at this moment that I knocked over a glass of champagne. Yes, the glass broke. If you were there and saw it happen, yes, that was me.
Andrea Syrtash, dating expert and author of He's Just Not Your Type (And That's A Good Thing) as well as Cheat On Your Husband (With Your Husband), was there doling out relationship advice. I had the pleasure of speaking to her for a couple minutes after which time she offered me a copy of her newest book, It's Okay To Sleep With Him On The First Date (And Every Other Rule Of Dating Debunked). Andrea's book titles themselves have me hooked, but I became an official fan on my subway ride home. Ten pages in and I am sold. Her books are fun, witty, and an absolute must-read (If You're Into That Kinda Thing).
Following the event, I met with Crystal, creator of fashion blog The Ablazed and features editor for Embodied Magazine, who interviewed me for an upcoming feature. Stay tuned and I promise to tell you all about it.
