Why I'll Be Sitting Out My 11th Season Of NYFW // Floral Maxi Wrap Dress

Why I'll Be Sitting Out My 11th Season Of NYFW // Floral Maxi Wrap Dress

If you know my backstory, you know that I started my blog 5 years ago in order to get invited to NYFW. Getting my first invite all those years ago was a dream come true and I’ve since enjoyed many more Fashion Weeks, getting to see the industry change from the inside. I spoke about those changes in a previous blog post, but this one is just to let you know why you won’t be seeing Fashion Week coverage from me this season.

First and foremost, like it has many times before, NYFW will be taking place over Rosh Hashanah this year. Jewish industry members have complained in the past and observant designers have had to reschedule their shows accordingly, but while no changes have been made to the overall schedule, Fashion Week will be going strong over the 3 day holiday. As a result, I will sitting out the shows, along with a large portion of the Jewish fashion community.

Then there’s Shabbat. I would never expect NYFW not to take place on Friday night or Saturday, so I’m used to skipping any shows that take place then, but as Shabbat is connected to Rosh Hashanah this year, almost the entire week is now blocked off for me.

Because I’m so limited anyway, I agreed to spend the weekend in Connecticut with a bunch of my cousins, which means even my Friday afternoon is now being dedicated to travel. And as I’ll be flying to St. Louis for Rosh Hashanah, forget about making it to any Sunday shows. That means I have exactly one day, Thursday, to run around with the packs.

Normally I would try to squeeze in whatever shows I could, but I also have a freelance job, and over the one day that I’m available for Fashion Week, I still have to get my work done. Because I’ve attended NYFW for 10 seasons now, I decided I would focus on the events instead of the shows this time around. That way I’m able to dedicate my day to my freelance work and my night to NYFW events, without spreading myself too thin.

I’m excited to experience NYFW from a completely different angle this season and avoid the stress of making it from one show to the next, but you better believe I’ll be back for season 12!
