Why Some Bloggers Beg You To Like Their Photos // Light Pink Blazer + Leather Leggings

Ever wanted to feel powerful? Every time you follow a blogger and every time you hit that like button, you are directly supporting her dreams and even impacting her income. I’m sure this concept isn’t news to many of you, but I was recently talking with someone who was absolutely flabbergasted just how much her one little like mattered. But it really does. The amount of followers and likes a person receives on Instagram is directly correlated to the amount she can charge brands to collaborate. That means every single like really does matter, especially when they start adding up. That’s huge!

Want to feel even more powerful? Not to give you guys any ideas lol, but if every single one of a blogger’s followers decided to do a mass unfollow, that blogger would be jobless by the following day. Her source of income would be gone, the free products would stop, the event invites would start to slow. Because without our followers, we are nothing but women sitting behind our phones and computers sharing our random thoughts with the world.

It may come as a surprise, but in general, only 1% of a blogger’s following interacts with her posts. Pretty good engagement is at 2% and if you’re hitting 3% or above, WOW, teach me your ways. These numbers usually apply to bloggers with bigger followings since smaller bloggers generally have more engaged audiences. It would be pretty unrealistic to expect someone to like every single photo he or she saw, but I wonder if engagement would go up if there were more awareness around just how much of a difference it could make in a blogger’s life. Cue this blog post.

Like many other bloggers, I’ve been seriously struggling with my engagement lately. Yes, Instagram makes it very difficult to get seen, but of the 10-20% of my followers who are seeing my posts, why is it so hard to get more than 1% of those people to hit the like button? I’m so curious what inspires someone to take the time to like a photo, what makes a person stop and read the caption, how can we bloggers build a more engaged audience? I’ve got a few ideas, but I’d rather hear your thoughts. Shoot me an email at pr.esthersanter@gmail.com to get the conversation going!
