Black Asos Jumpsuit // Prioritizing Life And Blog

Before I got engaged, I would schedule one to two month’s worth of blog posts at a time. It was amazing not having to worry about getting a post up every Sunday and Wednesday. Everything was pre-planned and the posts went up automatically at 10am on the dot. Post engagement, I’ve been completely slacking. I barely log onto Instagram anymore and forget about scheduling blog posts. In fact, this past Sunday marks the first time in almost a year that I didn’t post. I was so close to spending my Saturday night editing images and writing a post in order to stick to my deadline, but I was away for a bachelorette weekend and chose toasting my friend with mojitos over my blog.

Even though it may seem black and white, it’s not always easy knowing when to put relationships over blog and vis versa. My blog is my job, after all. But the way I prioritize my blog is the same way I prioritize everything in my life. I ask myself the following question, “In a year from now, will I look back and regret not doing x?”

If I’m swamped with work and I have to push out three blog posts by the morning and my friend offers me a free ticket to a Katy Perry concert, I will definitely pause to consider going, but in the end, I will put work first. I have a responsibility to my sponsors, and in the scheme of things, a concert is not some life changing experience that should cause me to reconfigure my schedule. A year from now, it will not matter to me if I went to the concert or not. If I had the same workload and my fiance told me he just remembered his cousin’s wedding is that night; however, I would drop everything. A year from now, when my future husband, cousin, and I will be sitting around our Thanksgiving meal, I will never regret being at that wedding.

Priorities are very personal, and they force you to be honest about what you find important. If Katy Perry is your favorite singer in the world and you have been dying to go to her concert for years, maybe it would be worth pulling an all nighter to go. But if you’re like me and can’t even name her latest song, while it would be fun to attend the concert, it would be the smarter decision to stay back and work. All in all, I don’t think any normal person would look back and say, “Oh man, I wish I worked one more day,” so sometimes it’s good to prioritize life over work. At the same time though, your blog is also important and if it’s your job, you better treat it like it is. It’s all about finding that balance.
