Posing Tips For Your Wedding Day // Wedding Wednesday
Aside from the fact that LH Photography comes highly recommended on WeddingWire, one of the perks of hiring Lilian is that she includes an engagement shoot in her wedding photography package. This could not have made me happier because I now have gorgeous engagement photos that will match my wedding photos. The shoot was focused; however, on learning how to pose with one another. As a blogger, I’m used to having my photo taken, but posing with another person is not easy and probably the last thing you’d want to learn how to do on your wedding day. Lilian spent about an hour teaching me how to stand and showing my fiance how to use his body and arms to support me. Since the bride generally has little mobility on her wedding day while wearing her long dress and heels, it’s important that the groom know how to support her body to make it easier for her to walk and stand. Lilian corrected our postures and showed us how to turn our bodies to look more relaxed.
One tip Lilian gave my fiance is to not put his feet in “penguin” position. It’s a term she came up with primarily for men who stand with their heels pressed together and feet turned out. More common than you think! As we practiced our posture and stances, Lilian helped us train our bodies to get used to posing that way, so it would become muscle memory by the time our wedding came around.
We spent a good chunk of the engagement shoot session learning how to walk for the camera. The bride should lightly hold the groom’s hand and take a couple steps before him so that it looks like she’s leading him. This way everyone is perfectly visible in the picture, including your train if you opted for one.
The most important tip though, which isn’t as easy as it sounds, is to act like you love each other. It’s normal to tense up when you’re in front of the camera, so remember to relax, look at each other, smile, hold hands, and just enjoy the day together.
