Pastel Blue Pleated Dress // Keepsake The Label
Pastel and I are having a moment, along with that white tee I can’t seem to seem to ever leave at home. There’s something I love about the juxtaposition of fancy and casual. This pastel blue pleated dress could own the room by itself, but dial it back with a cotton tee and some cork wedges and all of a sudden you go from Night Out At The Opera to Dinner Date. The white tee is my go-to because it creates that perfect balance. Now let’s talk about some other ways to tone done fancy pieces.
The Shoes: Shoes can make or break a look in terms of how fancy or casual it seems. Throw on some heels with a pair of jeans and it’s ultimate business attire (depending on your field). Switch up those heels for sneakers and all of a sudden you get a lazy Sunday look. Keep the sneakers and trade in the jeans for a dress, sophisticated casual perfection. It’s all about the right mix.
The Bag: Evening bags take things way up a notch, so opt for something a little more casual like a bucket bag or simple box clutch. Getting playful with pom pom and/or monster bag keychains also helps to downplay your outfit.
The Accessories: Keep it simple. Let the statement piece you’re wearing be special on its own.
The Hair and Makeup: You know the rule where you’re not supposed to have a bold lip and bold eyes at the same time? Stick to it. As for the hair, beachy waves are a fail-safe.
I already mentioned the white tee, but it really should have a category of its own. Throw it on under strapless dresses, jumpers, cocktail dresses… and it will instantly tone down your look. Have any other ideas? Leave them in the comments!
