Black Strapless Dress Over Sweater
After almost 7 months of letting life get in the way of getting a haircut, I figured it was time to resolve the situation. I decided to pay Fred.NYC a visit. I had no idea prior to my arrival, but the salon had only been open for a week.
Fred was an absolute hair genius. His cutting methods are nothing like I have ever seen. Just a little background: My hair is insanely thick. Fred literally looked at my hair and proceeded to chop it off, while still dry, in absolutely no specific manner. I overheard him explaining his process to one of his employees, telling her that when someone comes in with such thick, "cool girl" (think wild) hair, she should shut her eyes halfway and just cut, do whatever feels right. If I were anyone else, I think that line may have had me think twice about my salon choice, but I actually found his new-age hair cutting ideas interesting and loved what he did with my hair.
This haircut I keep talking about took place after this photoshoot with photographer Flint Chaney, but while I was getting my haircut, I got to speaking with Fred, and he gave me some much welcomed advice. Somewhere between having my hair hacked off and having my hair washed (yes, in that order), Fred checked out my blog and came back with the following tip. I am not a reporter, I am a blogger. Forget grammar (can't), forget using big words (fine), and write as if you are speaking to the one person in the world who cares about fashion as much as you do. When you write, write to that one person and forget that anyone else exists. Since I am not really friends with anyone as fashion obsessed as I am, I essentially took this to mean that Fred wants me to be writing public diary entries.
Don't expect me to get all personal or anything, but this post about nothing more than my haircut, completely unrelated to the outfit I am wearing, is my attempt #1.
And since we're on the subject of Fred, I just want to say that I highly recommend his salon, but make sure to book with him just so you can chat with him. He's apparently super famous in Canada, hosting TV shows, owning a restaurant, having his own makeup line... He's pretty cool.
Anyway, this outfit is one that came to me at about 2AM the night before the shoot. I am not sure what possessed to put a chunky sweater under a strapless dress, but I am really happy with the result. Nothing speaks to me more than the juxtaposition of elegant and casual.
