5 Ways To Get Outside With A Baby More This Summer // Guest Post
After a long winter, being outside sounds so good to me! The great news? It’s also so great for babies! If you are looking for more ways to get outside with a baby this summer, I’m bringing you 5 fun ideas to help you succeed over the next six months!
Wear your baby
If you have another kid, or if your baby is too little to play on their own outside, try wearing your baby! This way, you both can get all of the benefits that being outside provides, but you don’t have to worry about where they are, or what they are getting into. If you face them in towards you, they can even take a comfortable nap, but carriers are also beneficial to baby while they are facing outwards too. Now they can see, reach, grab, and hear so much going on around them. They’ll love taking in new sights while strapped right to mom or dad.
Make a list of local playgrounds
If your baby is old enough, create a list of local playgrounds to try out. This spring and summer, check off playground by playground and figure out what your favorites are. You could even take it a step up and have a fun picnic while you are trying out new playgrounds, if they have the green space available. This is not only fun for your baby or toddler, but also so fun for you!
Go for a walk
Walks are great for both parents and babies. You both need the fresh air if you’ve been cooped up in the house this past winter. Pop your baby in a stroller or carrier and take them out to enjoy the sights. Make sure you point out all the things they will be seeing while outside. From houses and cars to trees and birds, your little one is taking in all of his surroundings. Even though he or she may not be speaking just yet, they are still understanding a lot more than you may think. The best way for your baby to learn new vocabulary and language is to see the real thing.
Sensory play
Being outside is probably a totally new experience for your infant, especially if they were born this past winter or fall and haven’t been outside yet. Don’t be afraid to let them get a little dirty! This helps when it comes to sensory play, which is so good for them! You can lay them on their belly on a blanket or sit them up on a blanket in the grass. Help them to explore their new environment by touching and feeling all the outdoor things. Everything like grass, sand, pinecones, smooth rocks, rough rocks, twigs, flowers, and leaves are so great for them to feel and play with. One thing to keep in mind: not everything outside will be okay when it comes to choking hazards. Just make sure you watch them carefully! This is so great for them when it comes to sensory play through feeling different textures, but they are also hearing (and feeling) so many things that you don’t even think about like raindrops, wind, cars and trucks honking and driving by, birds chirping, dogs barking, bees buzzing, and more.
