My Thoughts On, "It Gets Easier." // Layered Sweaters + Polka Dot Tights

Since the day Nate was born, people were telling me, “It gets easier.” But when he was brand new, I didn’t find the transition nearly as hard as I thought it would be because I was on cloud 9. Then when the exhaustion slowly started overpowering the excitement, I found the lack of sleep got harder, not easier. Harder still was when Nate became mobile and my days of leaving him on his play mat while I ran to the bathroom were officially behind me. I guess it’s simpler now that he’s on a pretty set schedule and we’ve got a great routine going, but sometimes I question if it’s really easier.

Long gone are the days I could feed Nate right from bed with a simple nursing session and forget about spending the day cuddling on the couch because as if he’ll sit still longer than one minute. I rarely find the time to finish my coffee these days because I’m non-stop running after little Nate who loves to climb on or under absolutely everything, including his stroller, even though he routinely gets his head stuck underneath.

All to say, I’m not sure it gets easier. I’m more experienced for sure. Bath time isn’t scary anymore and Nate’s becoming more independent every day, but as he grows, so does the amount of energy it takes to keep him safe, well fed, and happy throughout the day. I love motherhood though. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done and even though it may not have gotten easier, it most definitely has gotten more fun.
