Fresh Cut And Color // Sharon Dorram Color at Sally Hershberger
As you probably noticed, I chopped my hair off recently. After growing it out for the last year, I finally came to terms that super long hair just doesn’t suit me as much as I wish it would, so I booked an appointment at Sharon Dorram Color at Sally Hershberger. I got my last cut and color there, so I knew I would be in good hands. The salon is a hidden gem on the Upper East Side and after getting settled in a robe with a hot cup of coffee, I met with Sharon Dorram herself to discuss my hair. Some of her other clients include Nicole Kidman and Kate Hudson, so I trusted her completely when she suggested honey toned balayage. Spoiler alert: I’m obsessed with my new color!
While Sharon worked, I asked her for some tips on maintaining color. Her best advice is to not over shampoo, go for sulphate free products, and use hair masks, like Leonor Greyl’s Orchid Mask. She also recommends getting a gloss in between color appointments to keep hair shiny and refreshed and even offers this service free if a client’s hair starts to dull. In terms of current trends, Sharon said she’s been seeing a lot of brunettes getting honey highlights for spring and a lot of blondes going platinum.
As soon as my color was done, I headed upstairs to meet Temur Hamilton for a cut. I showed him what I was thinking and he completely agreed the shorter length would look amazing. He did an incredible job and added long layers to give it some definition. I normally get my hair thinned as well, but Temur told me that would actually bulk up my new haircut since I would no longer have the weight of my long hair to keep it from puffing up. I’m so happy I listened and I’m thrilled to say that my cut has been extremely cooperative. I’m struggling a bit learning to use a big barrel curling wand, but it blow-dries beautifully and is so much easier to manage. Temur also gave me the greatest tip. If my hair ever gets too big (thick hair problems), just put a beanie on for ten minutes and it should help bring down the volume.
