My Favorite Israel Day Trip // Gan Garoo

Ever since my husband and I got married, we’ve been going on about two international trips a year, so it’s about time I added some travel content to the blog. My goal is to eventually create travel guides to all the countries we’ve been, but for now, I just wanted to share one of the greatest day trips I’ve ever taken while abroad… Gan Garoo in Nir David, Israel.

To my fellow animal lovers, this kangaroo sanctuary was a dream come true. My husband and I got to spend hours playing with and feeding kangaroos with barely anyone else around. There must have been at least 150-200 of them, but it was so interesting to see how they separated themselves into packs, called mobs, each with its own alpha in charge. There were signs all around that taught us how to approach the kangaroos (slowly and on our knees) and we found that most loved being pet and fed. Some were uninterested in interacting with us, but all were very friendly and every time we bought more food, a whole group of them would walk over to eat from our hands.

The kangaroos had lots of room to move around and what I really appreciated is that they were given a roped off area where they could go if they wanted to get away from humans. They were able to come and go as they pleased, but we, the visitors, were not allowed to invade that space. There was one mama kangaroo that spent the entire time we were there behind the rope, clearly being very protective of her joey, but it was still fun watching her hop around.

Could not recommend this place more and you bet I’ll be going back next time I’m in Israel! Does playing with kangaroos sound fun to you?
