5 Ways To Look After Yourself When Working In The Fashion Industry // Contributed Post

The fashion industry is notorious for long hours, constant competition, and a high-energy atmosphere. It is an environment where you need to take care of your physical and emotional wellbeing in order to sustain excellent performance within your role. The industry is swamped with stereotypes, but it does offer a diverse range of careers that can provide wellbeing for all kinds of people. If there is one thing you can be sure of, it’s that no two days are the same in this industry. Here are five ways to take care of yourself while experiencing the benefits that working in the fashion industry has to offer.

1. Get Enough Rest

You cannot overemphasize how important a good night’s sleep is. It may seem incredibly basic, but our circadian rhythm needs to be maintained so that we can achieve the best results at work. If you do not sleep at the same time every night, or if you do not sleep enough hours during the night, then your body’s rhythm will struggle, and this will have negative effects on both your physical and your mental health.

2. Surround Yourself with Supportive People

The fashion industry may involve working with some very difficult people. By ensuring that your social circle is full of supportive people and you maintain a network of genuine friends and understanding colleagues, you will be able to cope with any problematic social situations. It is essential that you have people who you can turn to when you are finding it difficult to cope on your own; they’ll pick you up and support you through the hardest times.

3. Prioritize Your Health

Working in the fashion industry is fast-paced, and you may find yourself being pushed to work to very tight deadlines. Make sure that you listen to your body and do not push yourself too hard. If you have undergone treatment with a medical professional and they did not give you adequate treatment, it is vital that you seek compensation, as it can often mean you are forced to miss work or underperform at work. 4. Take Time Away From Screens

Social media can have a negative effect if we do not allow ourselves to take a break from it regularly. Many research studies have indicated that sites such as Instagram can have an effect on self-esteem because we see people living a life that appears to be perfect. Our digital identities are often vastly different to our offline realities, and if you spend all day glued to a screen, you will not be able to think clearly about what matters in life. Know that fashion is, to some degree, a veneer. Don’t fall into the trap of judging yourself because of it.

5. Don’t Compare Yourself to Others

This is imperative to working successfully in the fashion industry. We are all different, and that is what fashion is supposed to celebrate: difference. It is important that you resist comparing yourself to others, that you love yourself, your body, and your features, and you don’t waste your time longing after a different figure or physique. It’s time wasted.

The fashion industry has a representation for being extremely high caliber, but there is no reason why you can’t take care of yourself while enjoying the benefits of the industry.
