10 Best Statement Coats From The Fall 2017 Runway
As someone who is completely obsessed with fashion, it has always been a dream of mine to be able to attend New York Fashion Week. Growing up, the only way to see the latest and greatest collections walk down the runway was by watching livestreams, stalking Vogue.com for the latest coverage, and by routinely refreshing my Instagram feed every few minutes. This season was the first time I have gotten the amazing opportunity to be one of the lucky few to watch the shows up close and personal. You can not even begin to imagine my excitement. While getting ready for my first show, I realized that it was 30 degrees outside and the sidewalks were still covered in fresh snow from the day before. Cue major stressing. How was I supposed to look fashionable if I had to cover my outfit with a jacket?
What I saw at the fashion shows completely changed my mindset on this dilemma. When I arrived to the location of my first show, I was huddled into a line with dozens of women (and some men, too) that were all sporting every type of coat imaginable. While I was wearing the warmest down coat I owned, the people that surrounded me were covered in coats of every color, fabric, and length. One woman was even wearing the cherry red Saint Laurent heart-shaped fur that I have been obsessing over for months. On top of it all, so many models strutted down the runway wearing gorgeous jackets of every variety. I realized that coats don’t have to cover up your outfit, because with the right styling, they can become the most interesting part.
My first New York Fashion Week has been crazy, exciting, intimidating, but most of all, it has been inspiring. After every show, I left with so much passion and motivation that I couldn’t help but wear a smile on my face.
