J Crew // L&L Designer Spotlight
I have always been preppy. I grew up in Maryland which is a preppy state, I summered in a preppy town, I always dressed the part and I have a love for all things nautical. J. Crew is one of those brands that preps like me gravitate towards. This brand has been around for a while and is a leader in high quality, classic and beautiful clothing.
A few years ago, Jenna Lyons was appointed president. She began her role by spearheading a new campaign to make J. Crew more appealing to the younger crowd. Jenna Lyons took the company’s classic style and twisted it by slimming down the cuts and silhouettes. She also added colorful, interesting materials with exciting baubles and embellishments.
When showcasing a new collection, instead of using runways, J. Crew has models stand in a showroom and act as mannequins while people walk around and observe the various looks. This is an interesting way of presenting clothing because it allows people to look closely at each item and really appreciate the outfit as a whole. On the runway, onlookers only get a couple seconds to see the outfit from far away.
There are several people who I can say truly influence my personal style; Coco Chanel, Olivia Palermo, Jackie Kennedy and Jenna Lyons. I can honestly say that I would trust Jenna 100% to style me, and I cannot say that for many people. She takes random pieces that I would never put together and just makes it work. That is really style. She is what I aspire to be.
