Zac Posen // L&L Designer Spotlight
I went to see the Rockettes Spring Spectacular this past spring with my grandmother. The show centered around New York City life and had a spectacular fashion segment. The segment featured designers that are central to NYC, one of whom was Zac Posen. Born, bred and now located in SOHO, Posen is New York City all the way.
Posen had a very early interest in fashion. He used to steal the Yarmulkes (Jewish head garb) from his grandparents’ synagogue and sew them into mini ball gowns for dolls. Ironically, gowns are what he is now known for. There is nothing like a Posen Gown.
I recently went to Saks to look at the amazing draping and structure that a Posen gown possesses. From afar his gowns are spectacular, but close up they are even more luxurious and visibly well made. They are artwork. No one but the best craftsmen could have created such masterpieces. The gowns weigh a ton and feel like something royalty would wear. Posen’s designs have been worn by the likes of Rihanna, Sarah Hyland, Katie Holmes and Heidi Klum.
Zac Posen’s career took off in the early 2000’s and is not stopping anytime soon. He has been a guest judge on Project Runway, has done a Target collab, and currently has designs in stores around the world. The little Jewish kid has gone from fashion obsessed to being the one we obsess over. That day I spent at Saks, I got to touch art. Then I had to run out of the store because the workers were looking at me like I was crazy. Oh well, one day I shall play with a Posen.
