NYFW Bibhu Mohapatra Spring 2014 Fashion Show
Better late than never: my experience at the Bibhu Mohapatra fashion show this past New York Spring 2014 Fashion Week.
The show began promptly at 9AM and I cannot help but wish every morning started with a dose of Bibhu. Known for his spectacular evening wear, I had the incredible experience witnessing Bibhu Mohapatra's gowns walk down the runway. I could not take my eyes off the geometric fractured fabrics and structured floral details.
Many of the dresses had the same fractured technique (shown above), an interesting detail that I later found out is his signature.
Bibhu's collection comprised of many floral pattern variations, from blurred to structured. I particularly love the red textured flowers scattered across the pink top above, a color combo I have seen pop up a lot lately.
After the show, I walked out of the room, intending to start the hour long wait until the next show. I planned to spend the time by reconvening my eavesdropping sessions on fellow fashionistas who have been in the industry long enough to ignite their complaints about the long days and longer lines synonymous with Fashion Week.
On my way out, I peeked into the room next door hoping to get one more glimpse of haute couture to feed my fashion craving before being sentenced to an hour of fashion deprivation while I waited for the next show.
It took a few moments to register what I was seeing, but only a second to invite myself into the room. I figured something this unconventional would not require a formal invitation. I'll tell you all about it in a later post.
While you wait, feel free to get nostalgic with some of my other NYFW fashion show posts, like Michael Kors, Nanette Lepore, and Naeem Khan.
