NYFW Naeem Khan Fashion Show Summer/Spring 2015
There are literally only two words on my mind by day 6 of Fashion Week: I'm tired. Exhaustion has reached its peak and the previous unadulterated excitement I felt from attending numerous fashion shows a day can officially be classified as ephemeral. However, no amount of sleep deprivation can affect the effect the Naeem Khan fashion show has on me. Naeem Khan brings the magic back. Every season, his collection reminds me of what my very first fashion show felt like, the rush of exhilaration and a sense of victory.
As I sit here writing, pulling out threads from the slowly unraveling sequined skirt I threw on this morning, I can appreciate the hours of intricate beading work that went into creating Naeem Khan's collection. From my numerous hopeless attempts at reattaching singular sequins to their exact (currently bald) sections on my skirt, I can only imagine the focus necessary to attain such detailed perfection.
Naeem Khan's designs inspire luxuriousness. His gowns are the ones you find A-listers wearing down the red carpet. I especially loved this collection of his because he incorporated sportswear pieces, each with his signature lace and a luxurious touch.
Yellow was everywhere, but that was no surprise as it had already been established as the "it" color for spring from Day 1 of New York Fashion Week. The shade of yellow in Naeem Khan's show was just as bright as the one other designers incorporated, but his collection exuded day-time glamour as opposed to beach fun.
I usually like to highlight my favorite looks from each fashion show. This yellow beaded lace gown ranks at the top of my list, my obsession revolving around the juxtaposition of a feminine lace dress paired with an oversized menswear blazer. This type of combination is not revolutionary, but I still find it fresh since the majority of the world has not yet adopted the trend. I am also slightly biased in classifying this look as my favorite since the model's jacket is worn on top of her shoulders, a look I am currently donning.
This blue beaded gown is a close second. I particularly love the sheer portion between the heavy beading.
Celebs in attendance included Kat Graham from The Vampire Diaries, Padma Lakshmi from Top Chef, Jamie Chung from Once Upon a Time, Holland Roden from Teen Wolf, Yvonne Strahovski from Dexter, and Bianca Santos from The Fosters.
Jamie Chung was one of the more friendly celebrities I've met, happily taking photos with everyone and chatting it up with anyone who wanted to talk.
I met Padma Lakshmi at a previous Naeem Khan fashion show, so it was fun to see a familiar face (in a sea of famous people I simply could not place). We actually got stuck in a corner together, caught in the rush of people trying to get backstage after the show. While we stood there, practically attached at the hip, someone started calling for her attention, waving her camera, and begging for "just one more selfie." Padma literally rolled her eyes at the woman and smiled at me. We definitely had a moment.
