NYFW Michael Kors Spring 2014 Fashion Show

Whenever I see a fashion show, I always try to remember my first impression and sum it up in one word, preconceived trends aside. For the Michael Kors Spring 2014 runway show, I decided that word would be "grey."

Look after look contained grey elements; in the pants, skirts, sweaters, tops. I particularly liked one grey outfit that looked incredibly comfortable, an oversized thick sweater paired with a hemp hand-crocheted skirt. Other repeating colors included emerald green, chalky blue, navy, taupe, white, and brown.

Michael Kors, along with many other designers such as Nanette Lepore, Naeem Khan, and Christian Siriano, incorporated florals into his collection. The florals in Michael Kors' collection, however, had a more classic feel, as opposed to the blurred daffodil pattern Nanette Lepore showed or the structural floral designs in Christian Siriano's collection.

Michael Kors also used a really pretty all-over ditsy floral print that looked so cute on his flowy dresses. The florals worked perfectly with the name of his collection, Summer Romance.

Many of the looks in this collection had a business casual feel with collared tops and slouchy trousers, and I can see a lot of women wanting these outfits for work. Michael Kors brought an interesting touch to the runway with the reinvention of the collared shirt which he did by elongating and rounding the collar's tips. Other key trends I saw were the trench coat and fur pieces.

As expected with a name as big as Michael Kors, the show was absolutely packed. There was even a row of benches set up in the middle of the runway to add extra seats, which created a U-shaped runway. It was too crowded to make my way over to speak with all the celebrities, but a few famous people at the show were Katie Holmes, Kate Mara, and Johnny Wujek.

Since there were benches instead of chairs, it was easy for me to find a spot relatively close to the front and leave my original standing room "seat" for someone else. Before sitting down, I grabbed the set list and name card off the bench to see whose place I had taken, and much to my disbelief, the card said Rumi Neely. If you don't know who she is, she is only my all-time favorite fashion blogger icon whom I had the pleasure to meet the day prior. I am not sure where Rumi ended up sitting, but I will tell you, her seat was awesome.
