NYFW Nanette Lepore Fashion Show Fall/Winter 2015
Posh Rebel was the name of the game this season on the Nanette Lepore Fall/Winter runway. The models, including Nanette's daughter, Violet, gave off major cool girl vibes as they walked the runway with a little more attitude than previous years. The collection was bold and serious. We're talking military detailing, tailored trousers, and lots of cape sleeves. Nanette also made sure her collection let us know the hot color of Fall 2015: Marsala Berries.
I'm getting pretty used to Nanette switching things up from season to season. During her Spring 2015 fashion show, she threw a dance party on the runway and this season, for her Fall collection, she completely switched venues. She chose a small, intimate venue away from the craziness of Lincoln Center, which was an absolutely wonderful change of scenery. Nanette also cut back a lot this season, showcasing only 23 looks in her show, as opposed to the standard 40 something. At her after party later that night, she actually told me she almost didn't have a fashion show at all this season, but luckily found this venue and threw it all together. I could not be happier that it all worked out.
It's become pretty much unavoidable that I run into Kelly Rutherford (Serena Van Der Woodsen's mom in Gossip Girl) at Nanette Lepore's fashion shows, and this season, I ended up sitting directly across from her. I figured I would do the usual introduction and snap a selfie, but this time
we actually got to talking a bit (made possible by the smaller venue). She definitely knows my name now after we took at least ten pictures together, one in every angle as we tried to get the lighting right. I definitely felt bad about that, but she was a really good sport about it all. And I'm not gonna lie, I had a short lived "fan girl" moment later that day when I posted one of the pictures on Instagram and
Kelly Rutherford herself commented on the pic with heart emojis and an excited, "We got it!"
Other celebrities there were John Slattery from Mad Men, Steve Buscemi from Parting Glances, and Vanessa Bayer from SNL.
I've probably said it at some point, but there's no party like a Nanette Lepore after party. Nanette is the queen of hosting, working the party like Miss Chatty Cathy herself and leaving no one out as she pulls people in to dance.
Her daughter wasn't there this year (it was a school night), but I had the privilege of meeting her niece and nephew and it's settled, that family is awesome. They are a creative bunch who never say no to a good time.
If only every fashion show could be this fun.
